Protecting Birds in Quebec: Helping Municipalities Become Leaders in Bird Conservation

In 2018, we conducted a study to identify the key challenges preventing the enforcement of the Migratory Birds Convention Act in local municipalities. Our findings showed general willingness among municipalities to implement measures to protect birds, though knowledge gaps regarding avian wildlife were evident. In partnership with the Sierra Club Canada Foundation, we began drafting a guide to assist municipal leaders and employees in implementing mitigation measures to ensure bird protection during various works. This project, initiated in 2021, received funding from the Echo Foundation, with contributions from several biologists and the City of Terrebonne. This invaluable collaboration has led to the development of a comprehensive guide (French only).
