Emerging Pandemic Threats, Smithsonian Institution, USAID-PREDICT Program

Our President, Dr. Isabelle-Anne Bisson, initiated and led the Animal Mortality Monitoring Program (AMMP) in East Africa. This program aimed to detect infectious diseases transmitted between humans and animals. As part of this project, we trained over 150 park rangers in the Queen Elizabeth Conservation Area on using mobile devices to report sick or dead animals. We also assembled a multidisciplinary team of 10 people from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds to develop an effective surveillance system.
